Voice in the Tunnel

Published in Cheryl’s first book of poetry—Poetics of Soul & Fire

You were not assured of hearing me in this life—
but your childhood yearning was so great,
your focus so determined,
that a remnant of our
ancient contact surfaced;
and I came forth
to greet you as of old.

Revealer of Secrets they once called you,
so intense was your desire
to plumb the deeper mysteries—
not for yourself alone
but for the lost and lonely ones
who knew not how to seek.

So, as an earnest child,
you were allowed
to hear my voice,
to view life’s gateway
in a vision of spiral heavens,
that you might be inspired
to discover clues and insights
into some of life’s great questions
that you gradually neglected
in favor of life’s trinkets,
until your grown-up longing
bade me break the silence
once again.

At life’s crossroads or its threshold
souls may witness
their own bright tunnel.
There I am
and there I speak,
yet often in tones so faint
that only children
can hear them.

And always, for some,
my voice comes through
in startling clarity.

Much like today,
and the day you still recall,
when your heart’s deep need
elicited my emergence,
and veils were lifted for a time
to show you life’s source
as its ultimate goal
and to assure you
that Light will lead to Light
if you but follow all the way
to greet the Masters
in their home.
